How can an ordinary citizen going about the daily routines of a hectic & fast paced life do their bit & help save their own hard earned money by reducing their power consumption?
Here are a few simple tips you can apply very easily & pocket the savings every time your bill comes in. Queenslander's are facing a power cost hike over the coming months & even bigger one's next year as we have been promised by the powers that be. Wages will not rise in proportion most likely & the poor old working family will be the biggest looser once again.
The hikes must be pretty hefty as the Premier of Qld has promised pensioners $200 a year to help off set the anticipated rises!
So fasten your seat belts for a roller coaster ride up the coming tower of terror!
10 Tips for saving electricity & money...
Turn off lights when you leave a room
Turn off all unused appliances at the wall
Install energy saving light bulbs
Cook in waterless or special cookware, where you bring the pot to the boil & turn off the electric hot plate & the food continues to cook to perfection in the special cookware.
Do the family wash at regular times, so the family knows you only wash on such & such a day & will be less extravagant when tossing tried on clothes in the wash, rather than hang them up again.
Peg your washing on the line, where possible, instead of tossing in the dryer. (This one thing alone has amazing health benefits as you bend down to get the clothes & stretch to peg. It expands your lungs, opens your chest cavity, exercises your abdominal & back muscles & gives your digestive system a nice little 10 minute workout!)
Check to see if your hot water system is on off peak tariff...if not, go & ask your electricity provider to do so.
If you can't do that, at least find the hot water on/off switch & turn it off during the day...or times to suit. (I did that some years ago, while everyone laughed at me for being so miserly, but I saved so much money over the next 12 month period, I was able to take my 4 kids to Dreamworld for the day...free money!)
As you replace your electrical appliances, make sure they have at least 4 energy saver stars.
Air conditioners are the worst culprit in summer, so close your windows & doors, draw the curtains, & set it on one or two degrees higher temp than you normally do. This will save you heaps!

I worked for a couple of months in 2008 with a company who was into "greening up the planet" using strategies, techniques and naturally occurring substances to help reduce green house gasses.
My role was to rally interest (in checking out the Company's claims regarding their products) from Local, State & Federal Governmental Departments or members. I was shocked to find the "duck shoving & buck passing" that occurred. If this is such a serious subject & our lives(...ooops; someone's hip pocket) depends on finding real & sustainable solutions, why wasn't anyone interested I wondered?
I'm not offering an opinion one way or the other here, I'm just jotting down my findings as they occurred.
The thing that annoys me most is the outrageous impost of a Carbon Tax that will be imposed on all, especially businesses, over the coming years without any real serious or honest debate at community grass roots levels. Then up goes the price of Electricity, water, food ...EVERYTHING!
Anyway, that's my rant...you can have yours below.

It is interesting that the problem of the higher cost of Power is rampant throughout the world...The man in the video states the USA's Power cost is going up over 100% soon. Don't let Anna know, or ours will be worse than the 30% rise we've been promised!
